Today there is a handsome church on the spacious grounds, and expanded school facilities permit much richer curriculum offerings than were initially available. And the school still offers youngsters the same essentials it always has: academic excellence in a secure and loving learning environment.
St. Thomas offers all students instruction in music, art, Spanish, and physical education in addition to the basic curriculum. School chapel services are held weekly, and the school continues to offer an intimate atmosphere with small classes—none larger than 15 students—and close attention to every child. St. Thomas serves the child whose ability is average or above and who is able to adapt to classroom routines. Teacher/pupil ratios are kept low, and each child is provided the opportunity to develop fully his or her own potential.
FINANCIAL INFO:
St. Thomas School serves children of both parishioners and the community, regardless of economic, racial or cultural background or religious affiliation. Generous support from St. Thomas parents, St. Thomas Church members, the Episcopal Church Women of St. Thomas, anonymous gifts, and alumni donations allows St. Thomas to offer a unique educational experience to students across a broad socio-economic range.
FUTURE STATEMENT:
St. Thomas School recognizes the tangible value of the arts in education, and has crafted its curriculum to embrace the arts. All students benefit from an integrated curriculum, wherein concepts presented in one content area are reinforced by being referenced in another content area. St. Thomas School strongly believes that the learning process is not confined to the classroom, and seeks to ground its curriculum goals in real-life experiences. We believe that a student who loves learning as a child will make educational decisions based on that love of learning upon reaching young adulthood. At St. Thomas School, “outside of the box” thinking does not necessarily mean “outside of the classroom”! |
